SCROLL TO EXPLORE

01 — The Artist

An artistic life shaped by heritage and place.

I’m Ovvian Castrillo Hill, a Filipino-Canadian sculptor and visual artist based in Fort St. John, British Columbia.

Growing up within the artistic legacy of my father, the late Eduardo Castrillo, gave me an early understanding of sculpture as a language capable of carrying history, emotion, culture, and ideas. Since beginning professionally in 2003, I have continued to develop a voice of my own across the Philippines and Canada.

My Story

Heritage is a foundation,
not a boundary.

My sculptures explore movement, rhythm, strength, softness, relationships, culture, and the emotional experiences that connect us. Moving to northern British Columbia changed my practice: my artistic heritage came with me, and Canada gave me another landscape in which to explore it.

Whether a work is intimate or monumental, permanent or temporary, I want it to create a moment of connection between the artwork, the place, and the person standing before it.

04 — Commissions

Let’s create something meaningful.

A commissioned artwork should belong to its environment, reflect its purpose, and tell a story that matters. I welcome inquiries for private sculpture, public art, corporate artwork, cultural installations, community projects, and commemorative works.

05 — Community

Creativity grows stronger when people feel they belong.

Fort St. John is more than the place where I live. It has become part of my story.

Through art, cultural initiatives, events, conversations, and community involvement, I hope to keep contributing to the place my family and I call home.

A Community Becomes Home

Belonging, culture, identity, participation, and connection.

Moving to a new country teaches you to see community differently. Slowly, new people and places become familiar. My experience of building a life in Fort St. John has made these questions increasingly important in my creative work.

01

Art in the Community

Creating Shared Experiences

Public art becomes part of daily life. People encounter it unexpectedly, children interact with it, families photograph it, and conversations begin around it. Projects such as Drum of Concordia let me explore art as a place where people recognize both their differences and shared humanity.

02

Culture and Participation

Celebrating What We Bring With Us

Culture lives through people—in celebrations, languages, food, music, traditions, stories, art, relationships, and memories. As a Filipino-Canadian, I value opportunities that make cultures visible while encouraging genuine connection between neighbours.
